At least 10 injured as bus overturns in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica — An unconfirmed number of people were this morning rushed to hospital after the Toyota mini-bus on which they were travelling overturned on the Rose Hall main road in St James.
This OBSERVER ONLINE reporter counted at least ten injured passengers, however, the bus driver, who did give his name, said there were 16 people on the bus, which plies the Ocho Rios to Montego Bay route.
According to reports, the right back tyre of the bus blew out around 7:55am causing the mishap.
A motorist, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was travelling behind the bus, which flipped approximately five times unto the soft shoulder after hitting the curb wall.
“Mi a come behind the van and then mi see the back tire blow out and then it start wobble and then turn over. It just touch the bank and roll come down about five times,” related the alleged eyewitness.
He said the vehicle was moving at a good speed.
“He was going a good speed. But still, to how mi see it, mi feel him hold the brake. As it (the bus) hit the bank it start swag. If him did just try fight the steering and control it, because you see if it was the front wheel it would be more dangerous, but tru (because) a the back now, it roll,” added the eyewitness.
Police, fire fighters and health officials were on location.
