35 children among 928 murdered up to August 12 — JCF
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has reported that a total of 35 children are among the 928 murders recorded between January 1 and August 12 this year.
The statistics from the JCF’s Statistics and Information Management Unit showed that 11 more children have been killed when compared to 24 for the same period in 2016, while a total of 744 people were murdered during that time.
St James recorded the highest number of child murders with eight as of August 12. Kingston and Hanover followed with a total of five each, while none was recorded in St Thomas and St Mary.
St Elizabeth, Manchester and St Ann each recorded one child murder while Westmoreland and St Andrew recorded four each.
There were three child murders in St Catherine and three in Clarendon for the period.
The police record also showed that 13 children were killed in road traffic accidents up to August 12, down from the 17 recorded in 2016.
