Campbell is new western referee president
Paul Campbell of Trelawny is the new chairman of the Western Referees Group after a one-vote win over Recordo Sailsman at a meeting held at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday.
Campbell tallied 16 of the 31 eligible votes, just one more than Sailsman of St James, who will assume the position of deputy chairman for the two-year term.
Ojay Duhaney is the general Sscretary, while Kemar Gayle is the new assistant secretary/treasurer.
“The first order of business for me is to have a western referee training programme as soon possible. The next thing I will be looking at is to boost the membership of the group,” Campbell later told the Jamaica Observer West.
Campbell explained that the group so far has 31 registered referees, adding, “I have asked each referee to identify one individual and bring them in so we will have 62.”
