Cop on secondment leaves FLA
DALLING… CEO of the FLA
News

Cop on secondment leaves FLA

A policeman who was secondment to the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) left the troubled Government agency yesterday.

FLA Chief Executive Officer Shane Dalling made it clear yesterday that the policeman was not a staff member of the agency following a radio report that a third employee had been fired by the FLA.

The report said the “third employee” was part of a “shake-up” which has accompanied investigations into irregularities at the agency by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency(MOCA).

But Dalling told the Jamaica Observer last night that the third person referred to in that report was an officer of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who had been on secondment to the FLA, and whose stay had been extended briefly beyond completion of his secondment.

Two senior members of the FLA were separated from the agency on Tuesday as MOCA continued investigations into corruption at the state agency.

Among those reportedly dismissed is a director of the agency who was named in a damning letter by an alleged whistle-blower inside the FLA, and another staff member who was reportedly close to the director.

Controversy has dogged the FLA over the past several weeks as previous boards, under successive political administrations, have been accused of granting gun licences to individuals of questionable character.

The most recent board resigned in the first week of August, stating that they were giving MOCA a free hand to investigate the allegations.
