St James welcomes new top cop
ROSE HALL, St James – Senior police officers let their hair down during a reception for newly transferred Area One boss, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Donovan Chambers, hosted by members of the Montego Bay business community at Henry McCurdy’s Restaurant at Shoppes of Rose Hall recently.
Dancers from the Evolution Dance group, who gyrated to the rhythm of a diverse genre of music, including mento, ska, reggae, kumina, dancehall and soca, highlighted the evening’s proceedings.
Other highlights of the soiree included pulsating drumming, limbo dancing, and a riveting display of fire dancing.
Amidst the entertainment at the Rose Hall venue, one of the newest night spots in the city, were copious servings of an assortment of beverages and local cuisine.
Apart from the top cops, also in attendance were some of the resort city’s movers and shakers, headed by Montego Bay’s mayor, Homer Davis.
Head of the Tourism Enhancement Fund, Godfrey Dyer, and members of the judiciary, among others, were also present.
Popular Montego Bay businessman Lachu Ramchandani noted that it gave him great pleasure to spearhead the hosting of the function.
“As a senior Justice of the Peace, Order of Distinction and being a friend of the police for the last 40-odd years, I feel that it is a part of community service to introduce the ACP. Our biggest problem in Montego Bay is crime, and we wanted to welcome him and see if we can work together for the betterment of St James and Jamaica,” Ramchandani told the Jamaica Observer West.
“I am very, very happy we had the senior judges and a couple other judges, the mayor, Godfrey Dyer among others.”
Chambers thanked the Montego Bay business community for the gesture of appreciation.
“It was a wonderful feeling to see you transferred into an area, and people who you wouldn’t have known before came out and showed support for the police in that way. It sends a strong signal and it is encouraging for me as the ACP, as well as my other management team,” he remarked.
ACP Chambers has replaced ACP Warren Clarke.
