Former T&T newspaper editor succumbs to cancer
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – A former features editor with the Trinidad Express, Deborah John, died late Wednesday, following a battle with cancer.
John, 61, who was the daughter of the late veteran journalist George John, had been on sick leave undergoing treatment.
Her death was confirmed by her daughter in a post of Facebook.
Editor in chief at the Express, Omatie Lyder said the staff was shaken and saddened by the news of John’s passing.
“Deborah was an experienced editor (who) exhibited expert knowledge on pan, calypso and the arts and a mentor and friend to many journalists. Her death is a great loss to the Express and the media fraternity,” Lyder said.
Deborah leaves to mourn her daughter Nadia, and brothers Anthony and Gregory.
