Living in Havendale is torture all because of NWC

Living in Havendale is torture all because of NWC

Dear Editor,

One week! That is how long it has been since I have received consistent water supply from the National Water Commission (NWC).

I live in Havendale, St Andrew, and ever since moving here almost two years ago it has been torture, all because of NWC. You name the problem, this area has experienced it. It seems NWC is incapable of fixing a problem and providing consistent service for longer than a week or two.

This is the nth time that water has been disrupted in a matter of weeks. And don’t bother to waste time contacting them to find out when the service will return. All you hear is the usual, “We are aware of the problem and are working on it but cannot say when the service will be restored”. Really??!!! Are your people even really working on the matter?

So if the water is not restored for another week, what exactly should I do? Are you going to come and fill my tanks for free? I still have need for water every day. I still have to go to work. I still have meetings to attend. I still have to cook, wash, and clean, just like your board members and your managers whose water, I am sure, you wouldn’t dare disrupt for a week.

And it gets better. It seems this company picks and chooses which disruptions to report on their website for the public’s information. Frankly, it shouldn’t be that hard, because a template letter would work perfectly for Havendale, since this area suffers this inconvenience so often. But no, no advisory has been posted on their website about this extended disruption.

Then, NWC has the gall to put a customer satisfaction survey on their website.

I am not asking NWC for any favours. What I am simply asking for is what I am paying to receive — consistent water supply.

Will my life in Havendale continue to be hell or will I be granted the courtesy of some water by the time I get home today? I will need to have a decent shower after a hard day’s work.
