So’Nia launches album tonight So’Nia launches album tonight
SO’NIA will launch her album I’m Ready, tonight at the PA-Nash Restaurant & Lounge in, Rosedale, New York. The event will feature guest performances from acts including Stephen Sousa, Tilly Beng, and Ed Robinson.
“The album was released late last year but we have now decided to do an official launch,” So’Nia told Splash yesterday.
I’m Ready is produced by veteran singer/producer Ed Robinson of Knocking on Heaven’s Door fame. It contains 10 songs, two of which are originals ( Baby Be Mine and Baby). The other eight tracks are covers. They include A Little Bit of Heaven (originally recorded by Natalie Cole), Never Stay Away, and One Life to Live (both made popular by Phyllis Dillon).
Born Sonia Williams in Mandeville, So’ Nia grew up in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth. She has been recording since her high school days. She once sang with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires and worked in the hospitality industry before migrating to the United States in 1985.
“During my teenage years I sang on the choir. I even did a one-year stint with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. I also worked in entertainment at Silver Sands hotel before I migrated,” she recalled.
After moving to New York, So’Nia put her music career on hold. Now residing in New Jersey, she made a comeback three years ago with I am Not Your Helper, produced by Robinson.
“Music is my passion. It’s inside of me and I want to share that with the world,” she said.
