CPL: Tallawahs chasing 209 runs for victory vs Trinbago Knight Riders
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Tallawahs will require 209 runs for victory for a second time in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 tournament, after leaders, Trinbago Knight Riders piled up a mammoth total in the second of their four home games here at Sabina Park.
The Knight Riders sent in to bat were led to 208-6 from 20 overs by New Zealander Brendon McCulluam, who now assumed the leading scorer of the tournament slot, after an impressive innings of 91 off 62 balls.
McCullum hammered five boundaries and six big sixes in his destructive innings, as he steered a 92-run second wicket stand with Colin Munro (42) and then a 63-run third-wicket stand with Darren Bravo (28).
Local boys Krishmar Santokie with 2-44 off four overs and Rovman Powell with 2-38, were the pick of the Tallawahs bowlers.
If the Tallawahs, who are positioned third on the points table with eight points, successfully chase down the target, they would solidify a spot in the playoffs, joining the Knight Riders, who currently lead on 14 points and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (11 points).
The Tallawahs, before arriving in Jamaica for their home leg, were asked to chase a similar total by the Chris Gayle-captained Patriots and failed to do so. They could only manage 171-7.
