Missing Guyana airplane found in trees
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — A search and rescue mission was launched in Guyana yesterday following reports that a small plane operated by the company – Air Services Limited went missing.
The Cessna 206 aircraft was operating a flight in Region Eight and was scheduled to land shortly before 9:00 am (Guyana time) on Sunday.
According to the director general of the Civil Aviation Authority, retired Colonel Egbert Field, a search was launched and the aircraft was located with the help of an emergency locator transmission.
The President of the National Air Transport Association Annette Arjoon-Martins told Demerara Waves online that the plane was found intact.
“The aircraft is intact on the trees. The fact that it is not broken up, we are hopeful,” she said, adding that the aviation fraternity is optimistic about the pilot, Captain Imran Khan.
She said the rescue team was travelling on foot to the crash site.
The wreckage is located in a forested and mountainous location in the country’s interior.
Over the past month there were two crashes involving small planes in the area.
One of those accidents resulted in the death of a pilot, while the other left the pilot seriously injured. Investigations into both of those incidents are ongoing.
