Muslim Cleric al-Faisal remanded until Sept 11
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Controversial Jamaican Muslim Cleric Sheikh Abdullah al-Faisal was a short while ago remanded until September 11, when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
It is also expected that a bail application will be made on his behalf at that time.
Disclosure of documents, which the Crown is awaiting, will be made on October 27 when al-Faisal is expected to return to court.
He was arrested on Friday on an extradition warrant in Kingston after he was indicted on charges of recruiting would-be terrorists.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R Vance, al-Faisal offered to help an undercover officer travel to the Middle East and join fighters with the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS.
The 53-year-old al-Faisal was born Trevor William Forrest in Jamaica.
