Two burglars shot dead in St Elizabeth, third on the run
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Two men are dead and another is on the run and thought to be injured after reportedly finding themselves on the wrong end of a shootout with a licensed firearm holder while they were allegedly trying to break into his house in Mountainside, St Elizabeth, police say.
Reports are that at about 1:00 am the licensed firearm holder heard strange sounds and on investigating saw three men attempting to break into his house.
The householder reportedly called out to the burglars who responded by firing shots at him. He returned the gunfire and then called the police. On arrival the police found one man dead, with a pistol beside the body.
Hours later, sometime after daybreak, a farmer found another body in his pumpkin field next door to the scene of the shooting.
A manhunt is now on for a third man who is believed to be still in the area. Investigators say there is reason to believe he may also be suffering from gunshot wounds.
