In a terrific last two furlongs (400m), Golden Glory achieved the difficult task of winning the first time of asking at the level of Overnight Allowance.

Ridden by the very consistent Aaron Chatrie, Golden Glory (Seeking The Glory – The Golden One) raced behind the leaders in the seven-furlong event (1,400m) for most of the way before being unleashed by Chatrie.

The four-year-old chestnut filly responded by sweeping past all and sundry to win by an advancing one length. The recorded time was a pleasing 1:25.4.

Dancing Queen – now taking training orders from Errol Waugh after moving from the barn of Philip Feanny – was second, a length and a half in front of third-placed Another Fury.

The Overnight Allowance class is probably the most competitive class currently existing in racing, and for Golden Glory to secure a first-time win at that level must have been gratifying for her trainer Gary Subratie, and her owner Oakridge Farms.

The win by Golden Glory is even more significant because when she won on last, she did so in a $600,000 claiming race. Congratulations to all.

One of the more favoured horses in the race, Wong Don (Anthony Thomas) – also entering Overnight Allowance for the first time after an eye-catching win in the class below, was rather hastily ridden by apprentice Thomas after suffering a bad start, and although in the fray at the top of the straight, faded badly to miss a position on the board, eventually finishing seventh.
