Johnson Smith receives letter of appointment for UK high commissioner
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith yesterday received copy letters of appointment from Asif Ahmad as the high commissioner designate for the United Kingdom to Jamaica
According to the ministry, the diplomat, who was officially on day two of his posting to Jamaica and who was amongst the visitors to the London Jamaica House at the recently concluded World Championships, commended the country on its brand power and visibility as he noted that Jamaica is well positioned to be the logistics hub of the region.
Johnson Smith used the opportunity to invite Ambassador Ahmad to register for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Conference, scheduled for November 27-29 in Montego Bay.
The ministry said Jamaica/UK relations post Brexit and next year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOCGM) were also among the matters discussed with Johnson Smith following the presentation of copy letters.
