Road work on Mannings Hill to be completed this month
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) said it is moving to complete the box culvert that is being constructed along the Mannings Hill Road in St Andrew before the end of September.
According to a release from the NWA this morning, the project, which suffered some delays due to the existence of a sixteen-inch National Water Commission (NWC) pipe in the project area, is now on track.
Manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said the water line has now been diverted away from the path of the new box culvert.
NWA also said the water commission intends to upgrade the sewerage system in the Mannings Hill Road area.
In anticipation of these works, a facility has also been constructed in order to prevent any damage to the drainage feature when those works are being undertaken, noted the NWA.
Shaw said all telecommunication cables have also been relocated outside of the project zone.
The three-month contract, valued at 15 million dollars commenced in July and includes the construction of u-drains, kerbs, reinforced concrete retaining walls; construction of the box culvert, sidewalks, and kerb inlets.
The NWA informed that works are now underway on the box culvert and Shaw said the agency has opted to use additives in the concrete mix in order to reduce its curing time, so that the road can be reopened by the end of September.
Alternate routes, along Saxthorpe Avenue and Constant Spring Grove, remain in effect until the end of the project.
The NWA is reminding motorists to exercise caution and to obey posted warning signs.
