Commercial flights to storm-hit St Martin to resume Saturday
BASSE-TERRE, France (AFP) — Commercial airline flights to and from the Dutch-French Caribbean island of St Martin, which were suspended because of Hurricane Maria, will resume on Saturday, the French authorities said.
“Commercial flights at Grand-Case airport will be possible once again from Saturday,” the prefecture said in a statement.
The island, whose Dutch side is known as Sint Maarten, was ravaged by Hurricane Irma, suffering 15 deaths, on September 6.
Travel links to the island, home to 35,000 people, were severed again ahead of Hurricane Maria when it barrelled through the eastern Caribbean on Tuesday but the territory this time escaped major damage.
