Woman who confessed to hiding ganja in vagina to be sentenced
A Kingston cosmetologist who tried to leave the island for Barbados with almost two pounds of ganja in her vagina and belly was on Wednesday remanded for sentencing in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on October 10.
A Manchester entertainer, who was found with 2.6 pounds of ganja in his luggage, was also remanded for sentencing on the same day.
Peta Gaye Smith, 27, of Albert Street in Kingston, was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport on September 10, after she checked in to board a flight to Barbados.
Smith was stopped and during security procedures, she confessed to having ganja in her possession and voluntarily removed a parcel of ganja from her vagina.
She was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she expelled 14 pellets.
When she was cautioned, she reportedly told the police: “Mi do it fi mi children dem cause a me one.”
On Wednesday, when Smith appeared in court before Parish Judge Simone Wolfe Reece, she pleaded guilty to possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, attempting to export ganja, and conspiracy.
In the meantime, Rashane Gayle, 20, of Manchioneal, who was also destined for Barbados, was held at the airport on September 13, after ganja was found in his suitcase.
He was found after police received information, sought him out and checked his luggage.
Gayle, when cautioned, reportedly told the police: “My girl, it rough right now, youth affi hustle now.”
He also pleaded guilty on Wednesday to possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking preparatory steps to export ganja and conspiracy.
The judge remanded both Smith and Gayle and ordered that their criminal records be presented.
