Extension granted for renewal of JUTC sub-franchise licenses
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Transport Authority has written to Commissioner of Police George Quallo, requesting that the police exercise “discretion” in dealing with Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) sub-franchise operators between today and October 13, because it has extended the validity of their licenses, which expired on September 30.
The authority, in a release this afternoon, said it took the decision to grant the sub-licensed operators a 10-day grace period to operate without being prosecuted to allow for completion of the renewal process.
As such, the Transport Authority’s inspectorate unit is requesting that the police withhold prosecution, but to issue strong warnings for the non-renewal of road licences.
All other infractions and violations of the Transport Authority/Road Traffic Act/Regulations should be treated normally with the requisite charges during this grace period, the authority said.
The Transport Authority also urged all JUTC sub-licensed operators to ensure they meet the revised licensing deadline of October 13.
