Cash Pot sets the Classic path

After She’s A Maneater, who will be next?

October 15, 2016 unlocked the doors to the 2017 Classic season.

It was the day when the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy (six furlongs – 1,200m), the first race in the Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series, was staged.

Among the eight horses down to compete was She’s A Maneater with Omar Walker in the saddle. After making a winning debut about three weeks earlier in the Front Runner Sprint (five and a half furlongs -1,100m), She’s A Maneater delivered another outstanding run to put her firmly ahead of the then juvenile pack going into this year’s Classic season.

She’s A Maneater won by six lengths after pulling away from rivals from the top of the lane over Money Magnet (Bebeto Harvey), with Armageddon (Ameth Robles) third. She’s A Maneater recorded a fast 1:11.3 (22.3 x 45.4) for the six furlongs of the race.

It is now a part of racing history that She’s A Maneater was all-conquering in 2017, winning the Triple Crown of the 1000 Guineas, the Jamaica Derby, and the Jamaica St Leger. She’s A Maneater is unbeaten thus far in 2017.

The 2017 edition of the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy is filled with all the uncertainties normally associated with the sport of horse racing, as there is not one horse who can lay a firm claim to victory.

With an attractive purse of $3.25 million in the offing on October 14, the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy sets the stage again for the emergence of a strong Classic leader for 2018.

Holding most of the cards going into this year’s renewal is trainer Anthony Nunes with three possible starters – Nadeshico, Necromancer and the thoroughly exciting Patriarch, who registered a very fast 58.3 seconds over the five-straight course.

Then there are the likes of Honey Ryda trained by Richard Azan, Exhilarate from the barn of Philip Feanny, and the new kid on the block – the thrilling Azaria trained by Gary Griffiths, who launched her career with a fighting win over six furlongs (1,200m) on Saturday last. Right now , Azaria is the only two-year-old going into the Cash Pot as a winner over six furlongs – the distance of the race.

Probably the most exciting juvenile to race this year comes from the shed row of trainer Rowan Mathie – Another Vigorous – who was just a fifth of a second behind the time recorded by She’s A Maneater last year in the same race.

The 2017 Cash Pot Only One For Me is going to be a humdinger of a race. Who will emerge victorious?

Patriarch after his devastating run over the five-furlong straightcourse.
