Correction: Over 300 JCF posts to be filled — Montague

The following story was posted earlier with a factual error in what National Security Minister Robert Montague said about promotions and morale in the police force. Here is the corrected version.

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of National Security, Robert Montague, while congratulating the 28 police officers that were promoted last month, said there are more than 300 positions to be filled in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

“I am renewing my call for other officers to be promoted because there are still over 300 vacancies in the JCF. A lack of promotion leads to a low morale,” Montague said in Parliament

Approximately eight members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) were promoted to the rank of senior superintendent and 20 others promoted to deputy superintendent last month.

Included on the promotion list was head of the Clarendon Division, Vendolyn Cameron-Powell, who moved to the rank of senior superintendent.

Montague was making his introduction to the Bill shortly entitled “The Major Organised Crime and Anti-corruption Agency, Act, 2017,” which is to be debated this afternoon.

At the commencement of his statement, the minister advised that “we do not intend to conclude the debate on the act today”.
