Man reportedly robbed after visiting woman to collect money
A man was taken before the court following allegations that he was assisted by his girlfriend in beating an elderly man and robbing him of $50,000.
Robert Gordon, 52, was taken into custody and charged with robbery with violence. He was, however, offered $50,000 bail when he appeared in court last Wednesday.
The court heard that on September 9, the 66-year-old complainant went to collect $55,000 from the accused man’s girlfriend, whom he had loaned the money. An argument developed between both men,
During the dispute, which escalated into a physical fight, the complainant was reportedly hit in his head several times by both the accused and his lover. It was also reported that money was taken from the complainant’s pocket by Gordon.
The complainant reported the matter and Gordon was arrested and charged.
However, when Gordon appeared in court his attorney, Zandra Francis, denied that he robbed the complainant and told the court that her client was acting in defence of his companion.
She told the court that her client and the complainant were interested in the same woman and that the complainant had been stalking her client’s companion. The attorney further added that on the day of the incident, the complainant attacked her client’s girlfriend and when he intervened, the complainant attacked him.
Gordon was then offered $50,000 bail by Judge Smith and his case was scheduled for December 15.
In the meantime the investigating officer reported that the investigation, as it relates to the accused man’s girlfriend, is ongoing.
