Spain confident Jamaica will step up economic growth
Spain’s Ambassador to Jamaica Josep Maria Bosch Bessa has expressed confidence that the Jamaican economy will break the cycle of slow growth.
Bosch Bessa, who delivered the keynote address at the opening of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yello Expo 2017 last Friday, noted that Spain had to grow its economy through tourism, foreign investments, and remittances, similar to the case in Jamaica.
He urged the Government, the business sector and civil society to take on the challenge of ending slow growth in the economy through reform and the opening up of the economy in order to achieve the targeted five per cent growth in four years.
However, he said that it is important to court foreign partners, like Spain, in order to achieve the target.
“Spanish companies are among the best options for building Jamaica together. To tell you the truth, I see Spain as the ideal partner for Jamaica,” he said.
The biennial expo, which ran October 13-15 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, showcased the best of Jamaica’s commercial and industrial products.
The event featured creative exhibits from Jamaica’s tourism industry, which has benefited from significant Spanish investments in recent years.
There were also exhibits from the manufacturing, financial, creative, BPO, energy, and agriculture sectors.
