Spanish Grain Store stop Seprod in Business House Five-A-Side final
Spanish Grain Store copped their second knockout title when they defeated Seprod Limited 3-0 in the 2017 Cable-pro Data Services-sponsored Business House Five-A-Side Football Knockout competition, at the NWC football field in Mona earlier this week.
The Marcel “Fuzzy” Gayle-coached Spanish Grain Store were all over Sperod Limited in the first 10 minutes, and scored two goals before they knew what hit them under wet conditions. Cordian Palmer gave his team the lead in the fifth minute when a mistake from Andre Moultan resulted in Palmer getting the ball and shooting past goalkeeper Doran Morgan. Poor defensive work by Rushawn Rowe and Zandel Giscombe resulted in Andrew Whyte sending his team 2-0 up three minutes later. Seprod gradually come into the game but were wasteful in attack; Moultan and Ian Davis missed easy chances to level the game.
The score was 3-0 in the 20th minute when former Harbour View and Rivoli player Kemar Lawrence received a pass from Jamie Robinson to score.
On the resumption Seprod came out seeking goals, but wayward shooting from Moulton, Davis, Andre Campbell and Gavin Blake, and also excellent goalkeeping from Captain Kavon Salmon, ensured that his team came out victorious.
He stopped over eight decent chances with some superb and point-blank saves as Seprod dominated the second half.
Spanish Grain Store will go for the double today when they meet first-time finalist Prime Sports in the Western Sports-sponsored Division Two league final at 2:30 pm, while coach Gayle could create history when his other team, Scotibank ‘A’ meet Seprod in the Division One final at 4:00 pm at the same venue, as he seeks to win all three titles as coach.
