Stephen Francis steps down at MVP
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Stephen Francis has stepped away from his role as head coach of the MVP Track Club, turning over the reins to his brother, Paul.
A release from the club’s president Bruce James this morning said the changes had been in effect since September 1 this year.
“Paul has attained the Level IV IAAF Coaching Certification in Sprints and Hurdles. Paul is also one of the highest ranked IAAF Technical Officials in Jamaica and is designated as an Area Technical Official “ATO” in NACAC by the IAAF” the release said and will take up the day to day coaching at the club based at the University of Technology.
Stephen will concentrate on coaching “select individual athletes” the release stated but both men will continue to coach at the University of Technology.
The MVP Track & Field Club officially started in September 1999, co-founded by the brothers and since then has a record, to date, of athletes earning 56 IAAF World Championship medals, 28 Olympic medals, 25 Jamaican National Records, 3 Olympic Records and 5 World Records.
