JAMAICA’S karting prowess was on show over the weekend at the GT Motorsports Georgetown Grand Prix held at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, Guyana.

The Jamaican contingent featured Senna Summerbell, Joshua Sirgany, Tommi Gore, and Ryan Lue, supported by two members of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) executive — Peter Rae and Rugie Misir.

“I’m very happy with the performance of the whole team as they showed maturity,” JKA president David Summerbell Jr told the Jamaica Observer’s Auto magazine.

Leading the Jamaican pack at the end of the event was Senna Summerbell, taking overall victory in his class 125cc Junior with poduim position finishes in each race. He had first- second- and third-place finishes across the three races. His local rival for the Jamaica Karting Association top title, the Abe Ziadie Memorial Cup Ryan Lue, performed a similar feat by nabbing first-, second- and third-place finishes in his class, 60cc Sun Burst Kids Cup.

“We were on pace from the start, so we knew were fast,” Craig Lue, Ryan’s father, explained.

Joshua Sirgany had his taste of the podium after taking two second-place finishes while tangling with Guyanese ace Kristian Jeffrey. According to Summerbell Jr, their efforts were witnessed by a large crowd of more than 2,500.

“The JKA has a good programme [that is] producing world-class karters and we’re sticking with it,” he said.

He said the performances have piqued Guyanese interest in coming to Jamaica.

“We have interest in their kids coming here soon, maybe for November,” Summerbell Jr added.
