Mike Henry named to IRF board
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Transport Minister and Mining Minister, Lester ‘Mike’ Henry has been named a director of the board of the International Road Federation (IRF).
According to a release from his ministry today, Henry’s elevation took place at the 69th IRF Annual Meeting and General Assembly held recently following a unanimous vote.
The board of directors of the IRF play a pivotal role in guiding the IRF in the delivery of world-class knowledge resources, advocacy services and continuing education programmes, which offer a global marketplace for best practices and industry solutions.
Henry said his membership as a director of the board is very timely because Jamaica has intensified its road safety campaign since 2015 in a bid to reduce road fatalities by fifty per cent by 2020.
He said that this is in keeping with the United Nations General Assembly declaration of 2011 to 2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety. Jamaica has been host for four of the last six IRF Caribbean Regional Congress. Henry is the first Caribbean national to sit on the board.
