Next the Glen Mills Caribbean Sprint for Simply The Best
Simply The Best’s exhilarating victory in an Overnight Allowance event over five furlongs (1,000m) round on Wednesday has prompted trainer Gary Subratie to give the filly a shot in the Glen Mills Caribbean Sprint Championship. The Caribbean Sprint Championship, a Grade One event, will be run over six furlongs (1,200m) on November 11. The race forms part of the Burger King-sponsored Super Day of racing, with the feature being the Burger King Superstakes.
Simply The Best scored a three-and-a-quarter length victory over Grade One campaigner Crucial Appeal in the three-year-old and upward event. Simply The Best, who was ridden by Paul Francis, clocked a very fast 58.1 for the minimum trip, just two fifths of second off the track record held by the imported Dye Job in what was an effort of sheer speed dominance.
“We are going to try her ( Simply The Best) in the Caribbean Sprint Championship come Burger King Superstakes Race Day on November 11. After that race we will see how she handles the big guns and move on from there and see what she does in the future.
“She showed that she is a five round to five-and-a-half furlong horse, and going six furlongs in the Sprint may be a tall order for her, but we are going to see what she does and take it from there,” Subratie declared.
Simply The Best, who has developed the habit in recent times of getting slowly into stride at the off, turned things around on Wednesday when she shot out of the starting gates and tackled Crucial Appeal (Shane Ellis) for the lead.
Heading around the half-mile (800m) turn, Simply The Best began to draw away from the field and by the time she turned for home, the Adore The Gold offspring was gone and done. Crucial Appeal held on for second ahead of Princess Emanuelle (Dick Cardenas) in third.
“Oh excellent…it was excellent performance by Simply The Best here. I mean, she broke today (Wednesday) and that was my main issue with her: that of getting out of the starting gates, and she did that.
“Once Simply The Best gets out of the gates she will give these horses trouble going five furlongs round. She has speed and she is a very determined racehorse,” Subratie revealed.
