Largest junior sporting clays tourney today
The largest number of junior competitors will take to the course today at the Jamaica Skeet Club in Portmore for the ATL Automotive Group Inter-Schools Sporting Clays Challenge starting at 10:00 am.
Seventy-seven shooters (two more than last year) have entered the tournament. This year sees 14 schools in total with three new schools. These are Munro College (three competitors), Glenmuir (two competitors) and Ardenne (one competitor).
The other schools are perennial winner Hillel Academy, Campion, American International School of Kingston, Jamaica College, Immaculate, St Andrew High, Creative Kids, Hopefield Prep, Sts Peter & Paul Prep, Immanuel Christian Academy, and Heinz Simonitch Prep.
The competition boasts nine categories, broken down in terms of age and shooting ability. The categories are Junior A, Junior B, Junior C, Sub Junior A, Sub Junior B, Sub Junior C, Sub Junior D, Girls A, and Girls B.
The junior shooters will target 50 birds from eight stations. At the end of the 50-bird shoot, the shooters with the top six scores will engage in an 18-bird shoot-off on three stations to determine the overall winner.
Roman Tavares-Finson is the overall defending champion. Last year he became the youngest junior champion at 13 years old, ending with a score of 64 out of a possible 68.
last year’s female winner was Isabelle Chin, who will not defend her title.
