The Rotaract Club of May Pen has reported that it has forwarded some 150 applications submitted at its career and job placement expo a few weeks ago, to four private sector entities which have expressed interest in employing people with specific qualifications.

The fair was staged on October 28 on the grounds of the Clarendon Youth Information Centre and had over 160 young people in attendance, some reaching the venue as early as 7:00 am.

The club explained that the fair was intended to provide the young people of the Clarendon capital with much needed job opportunities and to advise them about making informed decisions about chosen career paths. It featured a résumé-building workshop which saw scores of young people updating and editing their résumés to the current required standard. It also featured a panel which offered general advice and information on a broad range of career options, as well as interview tips. Members included: Constable Leroy Chambers, council divisional coordinator of the Clarendon Police Youth Club; Diana Tomlin-Whittick, logistics specialist at Jamalco; Andre Hardy, guidance counsellor; Valda Jacobs, career development officer, HEART/NTA May Pen; Primrose Killdare, career development officer at Ebony Park HEART Academy; and Howard Brown, Guild president, UWI Open Campus.

Club president Samantha Campell-Minott reported that several of the attendees signed up for HEART programmes and job placement opportunities, and showed interest in several programmes offered by UWI Open Campus.

“We express gratitude to the attendees, entities and persons who made this a resounding success,especially to our parent club, the Rotary Club of May Pen,” she said.

“We hope to make this an annual event to improve the young people of May Pen.”
