Manchester High 5K Run/Walk set for December 10
Mandeville , Manchester — The inaugural Manchester Capital Run 5K run/walk aimed at raising money for Manchester High School (MHS) sports programmes, is scheduled for Sunday, December 10, along the streets of Mandeville, starting at 6:30 am.
Organisers say the event is under the patronage of a number of Manchester High past students who are among Jamaica’s leading track athletes, including Nesta Carter, Sherone Simpson, Natoya Goule, Omar Mcleod and Elaine Thompson.
Meet director will be the experienced MHS coach Jerry Holness, who guided many leading track stars during their teenage years.
The 5K run/walk is set to begin in front of Sagicor Bank at 5-7 Ward Avenue, and proceed past Andrews Memorial Church (West Road) to the juncture of Greenvale Road and Balvene Heights, then left to the finishing line at the main gate of Manchester High School.
Organisers say the event is fully endorsed by the Ministry of Health and fits into the ministry’s Jamaica Moves physical fitness initiative. Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton is a past student/head boy of Manchester High.
Sponsors of the Manchester Capital Run 5K run/walk include Tropical Blue natural Spring Water company, C&D construction and Engineering, Ricam Construction, Mother’s Enterprise, as well as a number of Mandeville residents such as Dr Peter Wellington, Dr Orville Blair and Dr Christopher Duval.
