Coopers Pen, Harmony open KO in style
Defending champions Coopers Pen FC blanked Kinloss FC 3-0 at home on Sunday to advance to the second round of the Trelawny Football Association Victor Wright Knockout, joining three other first-round winners.
Harmony FC and last season’s beaten finalists Clark’s Town won their games on Saturday when the competition kicked off, while Holland United were also winners on Sunday, outscoring Granville FC 3-2 at Bounty Hall.
At Coopers Pen, the hosts scored all three goals in the second half, with Delbert Thomas opening the scoring in the 51st minute. Desron Whyne made it 2-0 in the 59th and Lamar Brown made it 3-0 in the 76th minute.
At Bounty Hall, Holland United and Granville FC slugged out a five-goal thriller after Holland scored first. They then went behind 1-2 before scoring the next two goals.
Lennox Dixon gave Holland United the lead with the first of his double in the 10th minute, but Ivanhoe Gordon levelled the scores two minutes later before Onecko Brown gave them the lead in the 26th minute.
Dixon then completed his brace in the 30th minute to get Holland United back on an even keel before Dean-Lloyd Reid scored the winner in the 76th minute.
On Saturday, Harmony FC, who have previously won the Presidents Cup KO, thrashed Prospect Links 6-0 at Bounty Hall.
Romaine Lewis scored a hat-trick to lead Harmony FC, giving them an early 2-0 lead in the 10th minute.
Lewis scored in the ninth and 10th minutes to give Harmony FC an early advantage before completing his hat-trick in the 75th minute.
Ricardo Reid made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute, while Oshane Stewart(56th) and Ricardo James (70th) also scored for the winners.
Clark’s Town beat Jackson Town FC 2-0 at Cedric Titus High, with Lupton Haughton scoring both goals — one in either half.
