Patriarch to continue winning ways
The most engaging juvenile contest this season is on tap in the form of the Pick-3 ‘Super Challenge’ Trophy run over seven furlongs (1,400m).
The race should be a battle involving three horses: Patriarch, Another Vigorous and Commander Two.
The Pick-3 is the second race in the Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Series, with Patriarch already claiming the first of the three races in October. The last race in the series is the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes run over a mile on Boxing Day.
The Supreme Racing Guide looks at the chances in this major juvenile race in post-position order.
PATRIARCH – Enters with a record of three wins from three starts. Patriarch is the epitome of controlled speed at this level and, for sure, coming from the number one draw is going to be in front in an attempt to make it a gate to wire affair. In his race against Another Vigorous on October 14, Patriarch put it over his main rival from in front, with tomorrow’s race shaping up to be a repeat. Patriarch has been quite active in the mornings and if there is a doubt, it may be around him effectively getting seven furlongs. Patriarch is packed with class and it is going to be difficult catching him when he takes the lead. A good horse in the making.
MY BEIRUT – Won the second time of asking while giving a hint that he might be suited going a bit longer. My Beirut is not quite ready for the likes of Patriarch and company, but a minor place here is not out of his reach.
ISINBAYEVA – Got out of the blocks with a good win, but was humbled by Patriarch, Brandy and G reek Goddess in the Juvenile Sprint on November 11 — Superstakes Day. It will be a big upset of Isinbayeva wins this one.
NECROMANCER – Well experienced filly who holds a win from six lifetime starts. Will not get the better of her stablemate Patriarch.
COMMANDER TWO – Coming to come, as evidenced by his maiden win on November 11. In his four races thus far, Commander Two has shown that he prefers to be with the early pace, but having been put in his place by both Another Vigorous and Patriarch, a reversal of that form is not expected. Commander Two definitely has something to offer and is on the improve, but may just be a tad behind the principals. Tomorrow we will know how good is Commander Two.
ANOTHER VIGOROUS – Trainer Rowan Mathie has added the tongue tie on Another Vigorous, who tried his best to run down Patriarch over six furlongs on October 14, but was held at bay in the end. Another Vigorous is well rested and has been meticulously prepared and is coming to run. He will have to try and catch Patriarch again, but this time his chances are enhanced by the extra furlong they have to travel. Another Vigorous is a good one in the making and his progress will be closely watched tomorrow with Dane Nelson riding for the first time, a major benefit.
BRANDY – Came from way off the pace to run second to the outstanding Patriarch, albeit more than five lengths behind over six and a half furlongs. Tomorrow, with the journey more in her favour, it is still really difficult backing a filly to beat the colts at this stage of the season.
AZARIA – Another filly who is going to find it difficult against the colts.
HONEY RYDA – Filly with two wins from three starts. Honey Ryda seems to want it longer, but again, beating the ‘boys’ is not going to be easy.
