The Glam Look You Deserve

Make-up artist Kimberly Patterson is the go-to pro for those in search of high glam. Your Under The Dryer team caught up with the affable pro.

Under The Dryer (UTD): How long have you been doing make-up?

Kimberly Patterson (KP): I have been passionate about make-up since my years at the Immaculate Conception High School. However, I made it a career after the completion of my studies at The UWI. It’s now eight years later, and I love it even more than ever.

UTD: When and how did it start?

KP: It actually began after a very random but successful Carnival season. I wasn’t yet a make-up artist but was approached by seven girls that year. They each offered to take along their own products as they only needed my skills in application. The idea of making it an official career was conceived that day! Once I see an opportunity, I take it and run.

UTD: What’s the key to good make-up application?

KP: The key is to take each individual and their features into careful consideration and enhance what they have naturally. Never overdo make-up, as less is more. Also, remember the importance of skincare. Once proper prepping is done before each application, the make-up application will be seamless.

UTD: What are a few current make-up trends?

KP: We are in the season of glowing and bronzed skin. That clean make-up look never fails! Another trend are lashes that up the ante, whether modest or fierce. A final trend is a soft smokey eye look with a deep lip colour for a night out with the girls.

UTD: What’s your one must-have product?

KP: One must-have product for your purse is definitely mascara. Without make-up on, a pop of mascara will draw attention to your eyes.

UTD: Which, if any, international celebs have you worked on?

KP: I have been blessed to work with many local and international projects and celebrities. A few mentions are America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) (Cycle 19), Lil Yachty’s music video For Better. Most recently, I was the local make-up artist on the set of Cardi B’s and Ozuna’s latest music video La Modelo filmed here in Portland.
