Salt Marsh, Duanvale score wins in Trelawny FA knockout
DAVIS PEN, Trelawny — Salt Marsh United scored a big come-from-behind 6-2 win over Invaders SC, and Duanvale FC ran past Upsetters FC 4-2 as the first round of the Trelawny Football Association Victor Wright Knockout came to an end on Sunday.
Fourteen goals were scored in the two games as the winners joined six other teams — defending champions Coopers Pen, Clark’s Town FC, Harmony FC, Holland United, Rio Bueno FC and promoted Friendship FC — in the draw for the second round.
Nichoy Edwards scored a hat-trick and Sanjay Walker scored twice for Salt Marsh United as they overcame a 0-2 deficit after 23 minutes with six straight goals at Davis Pen.
John Williams scored in the 16th and 23rd minutes to give Invaders SC a shock 2-0 lead, but Edwards pulled one back for his team in the 24th minute.
Walker got the first of his treble in the 29th minute to pull Salt Marsh United level, then gave them the lead 10 minutes later, while Edwards got his second in the 40th minute for a 4-2 lead at half-time.
Edwards completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute, while Terrence Bailey made it 6-2 in the 81st minute.
At Duanvale, the home team traded the lead with Upsetters FC before scoring the last three goals of the game to take the victory.
Garfield Henlon, who got a double, opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but Lindon Underhill levelled the scores in the 32nd minute for Upsetters FC.
Gerold Underhill then gave Upsetters FC the lead in the 50th minute, but Henlon brought his team back in the 62nd minute, completing his brace as Kevan Bartley restored their lead in the 67th minute, and Domique Domain added an insurance goal in the 71st minute.
