Titans enter final Super League game in pole position
CENTRAL Titans are in prime position to lift the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) two-day Super League title entering this weekend’s final set of matches in the competition.
The Titans, who visit Melbourne Oval in St Andrew to face Eastern Tigers in the rescheduled fourth-round clash that starts today at 10:00 am, lead the six-team table with 22 points. The Tigers are fourth with 15 points.
In another key encounter between teams on different sides of the island and at opposite ends of the table, Southern Seals match wits with Northern Panthers at Treasure Beach Sports Park in St Elizabeth.
The Seals are second with 18 points, while the Panthers occupy last place with 12 points.
The weekend’s other fixture is the match between fifth-placed Combined Universities and Colleges (13 points) and third-placed Western Warriors (16 points) at Chedwin Park in St Catherine.
The franchise with most points at the end of the competition will lift the champions trophy and walk away with $500,000 top prize.
Islandwide rainfall over several weeks has plagued the tournament, forcing organisers to reschedule three rounds. Bad weather also contributed to a number of no-results and draws due to significant time lost during matches.
