Desperate Boys’ Town welcome marauding Portmore United
Under pressure Boys’ Town will be aiming to end their 13-game winless streak, but have the arduous task against in-form Portmore United in one of five Red Stripe Premier League games on today at Barbican.
It is scheduled for a 3:00 pm kick-off.
In the other games at 3:00 pm: Cavalier SC host Humble Lion; Arnett Gardens travel to Sandals South Coast FC at Frome, and Tivoli Gardens take on The University of West Indies (UWI) at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
At 7:00 pm, Montego Bay United welcome Harbour View to the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Boys’ Town are rooted at the bottom of the 12-team league on seven points after mustering only one win in 15 games dating back to October 2 when they defeated Montego Bay United 1-0.
Since then the Andrew Price-coached team has lost nine games and 10 overall. They are struggling with injuries to their two key players in Jamiel Hardware and Michael Campbell, and points are proving extremely hard to get.
It’s a match-up of two teams heading in different directions. The “Red Brigade” have lost their last four games, while Portmore United have won their last three games and will prove difficult to stop. When they last met on October 29, Portmore United won 4-1 and are expected to win once again.
The Shavar Thomas-coached unit is second with 31 points, inclusive of nine wins, four draws and two defeats. They are just two points adrift of the leaders Arnett Gardens on 33 points in their continued quest for the top spot.
Portmore United will once again be looking towards top scorers Jovan East and Ricardo Morris — both with seven goals — along with Jermie Lynch with six goals to lead the attack. Boys’ Town, on the other hand, have scored just 11 goals, of which the injured Hardware has three. But, more worryingly, they have conceded a whopping 27 times at almost two goals a game.
Champions and leaders Arnett Gardens should maintain their unbeaten status when they travel to the promoted Sandals South Coast occupying the second relegation spot in 11th spot on 10 points.
Arnett Gardens are coming off an impressive 3-0 demolition of former champions Montego Bay United on Thursday and will be bubbling with confidence to secure their 10th win of the campaign. The “Junglists” had welcomed Sandals 3-1 to top-flight football on September 25 and are fancied to repeat.
The league’s joint top scorer Fabian Reid on nine goals will lead the Arnett Gardens attack along with Vishinul Harris, Steve Clarke, Marvin Morgan, the returning speedster Kemal Malcolm, as well as Damari Deacon, and Kenneil Hyde.
Sandals South Coast are showing signs of improvement and may just be able to create that massive upset and end Arnett Gardens’ unbeaten run.
Meanwhile, there will be an intriguing battle between the third- and fourth-placed teams — Tivoli Gardens and UWI. Just two points separate the teams with Tivoli Gardens on 26 and UWI on 24.
At the Stadium East field, the exciting Cavalier SC take on the experienced and battle-hardened Humble Lion. Cavalier are sixth with 21 points and hold the last play-off spot, while Humble Lion are 10th on 15 points and looking to move away from the relegation zone.
It will be a clash of former champions struggling to keep pace in the league as Harbour View, in seventh spot on 17 points, play Montego Bay United, in ninth spot on 16 points. Both teams are really struggling for consistent form and the way Montego Bay United capitulated against Arnett Gardens on Thursday, the edge must go to Harbour View.
On Monday, fifth-placed FC Reno on 22 points travel to Drewsland to play a Waterhouse team in eighth spot and on 16 points starting at 8:35 pm.
