John Mills tag Calabar 3-1 to hoist junior high football crown
DEFENDING champions John Mills defeated Calabar 3-1 to capture the 2017 Kingston and St Andrew Primary and Junior High football title in the final at National Heroes’ Circle playing field last Wednesday.
John Mills, coached by Ransford Spaulding, also defeated Calabar last season in a 9-1 thumping.
Scoring the goals for John Mills this time around were Rickeem Mohammed in the 13th minute, Tryell Williams from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, and Javaughn Forbes in the 30th minute as John Mills led 3-0 at half-time. Jahiem Rose scored the consolation goal for Calabar in the 42nd minute.
Spaulding noted that the team completed the season without losing a match.
He said under his leadership as a coach of John Mills since 1990, the school has remarkably won 285 matches and lost only ten.
“John Mills has won the junior high school football competition more than any other of the participating schools,” he said.
The John Mills coach added that the school has won the former INSPORTS-sponsored junior high football competition 18 times, and the Kiwanis Club Junior High schools football competition on 19 times occasions and retired the trophy at 14 times, and the INSPORTS girls football competition two times.
