St James derby
MONTEGO BAY, St James —
Former champions Wadadah FC and Faulkland FC, both coming off big opening day wins, will clash in an early St James derby as the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League continues today with three games, all set to start at 3:00pm.
The teams gave promoted clubs a tough welcome to the competition – Wadadah FC blanking Grand Palladium 5-0, while Faulkland FC overcame a second-minute own goal to spank Roaring River 6-2.
Clark’s Town will also be seeking a second straight win to start the season when they play away to Grand Palladium at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea, while former champions Granville United and Roaring River will meet at Granville.
Faulkland FC beat Wadadah FC 4-1 in their first meeting in the Super League last season and also in the second round, but Wadadah FC turned the tables in the return round game 1-0 as both teams qualified for the semi-finals.
After such a good start, both teams will be full of confidence and this could lead to an enterprising game as both seek to wrestle early control of the zone.
Both Peter Campbell of Faulkland FC and Oshane Hunter of Wadadah FC scored doubles in their win, and will be expected to lead their respective teams into battle today.
Clark’s Town got off to a good start with a win over Granville United at home on Sunday and will start favourites against newcomers Grand Palladium, who will be playing their first two games at home.
Tristan Warren made his debut in the Super League with two goals, and will be hoping to add to his tally against the Grand Palladium defence that gave up five goals against Wadadah FC.
Both Granville United and newcomers Roaring River will be eager to bounce back from losses last weekend, and to get their first wins of the season, but Granville could have the advantage, playing at home.
Granville FC, who last won the title two years ago, failed to make it to the last four last year, and will want to get back among the elites of the competition.
