THE year was 2004. Headbands, bell-bottom pants, and catchy slangs infiltrated dancehall sessions. One of those slangs was ‘Fashion Ova Style’. The phrase coined by late dancer Gerald “Bogle” Levy is the theme for the third staging of Strictly 2K: Best of the 2000s.

“The fashion in the 2000s was a big thing. There were jerseys, bandanas, mesh merinos; fashion was a huge thing in dancehall,” co-principal of the event, ZJ Chrome, told Splash.

The party is set for December 30 at the National Stadium in St Andrew, and organisers are aiming to take patrons down a trip to memory lane of how parties used to be following the turn of the new millennium.

“Back then there was one stage and one big hall, and that’s where everybody partied together. So we killed the VIP because it wasn’t like that then. We aim to create an atmosphere so everyone is in the same place, like how it was, having a good time. We even have free mixed drinks all night which was a big thing back then too,” said ZJ Chrome.

Patrons will experience the musical selections of ZJ Chrome, DJ Nicco, ZJ Liquid and dancehall duo Twin of Twins. ZJ Chrome said the inclusion of the last will add to the 2000s atmosphere, as the duo rose to popularity through their mixtapes at the time.

Speaking with Splash, Patrick “Curly Lox” Gaynor, one half of the duo, said they are not new to selecting music and patrons can expect to be entertained.

“We did a celebrity versus celebrity clash at Famous Nightclub and we also did something like that at Tracks and Records. In terms of who will be selecting and who will be emceeing, it’s gonna be a mixture. We are multifaceted, so we’re not going to go offside and do anything that isn’t required. If it’s about selecting, we’re going to be our usual selves and we adjust to any setting regardless of what the event is,” he said.

Paul “Tu Lox” Gaynor accounts for the other half of Twin of Twins.

The event premiered last December and was last staged in New York in September.

Bogle was a key figure in The Black Roses Crew led by William “Willie Haggart” Moore. They attracted numerous entertainers to their ‘Roses’ base at Lincoln Crescent in Kingston. At the height of his popularity in the 1990s, Bogle appeared in numerous music videos. He was shot and killed on January 20, 2005 at a Corporate Area gas station.
