Mike Henry pays tribute to late Councillor Melvin Jones
CLARENDON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Central Clarendon residents are in mourning following the passing of much-loved Municipal Councillor, Melvin Jones of the May Pen North Division, who died on Sunday after a period of illness.
In describing the late councillor as “a gentle giant who gave political representation his all,” Henry said “the constituency, which covers the town of May Pen, is in mourning out of recognition of the measure of the community man Melvin Jones was as a political representative for so long.”
The Transport and Mining Minister said Jones, in his inimitable style, had an endearing personality which drew many persons to him, which proved invaluable in his role as a political representative.
“He was so well liked. Very few persons did not seem to like something or things about him, although he was mostly under the radar working fervently in the interest of the people he represented,” Henry said.
Henry extended condolences to Jones’ family, colleagues and many friends and well-wishers “who are hurting at this time, but are also proudly reflecting on a life well spent in service to the people who repeatedly elected him as their representative.”
