Faulkland extend lead in Zone Two of Super League
GRANVILLE, St James — Faulkland FC extended their lead at the top of the points table in Zone Two of the Jamaica Football Federation/Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League on Sunday after beating former champions Granville United 2-0 at Granville Community Centre in a rain-affected round of games.
Only three of the six games scheduled over Saturday and Sunday were played as persistent heavy rains affected most parts of western Jamaica last weekend.
The other three games have all been rescheduled for next week Wednesday, organisers announced.
Catherine Hall FC handed last season’s beaten finalists Montego Bay Boys Club their fourth-straight loss, coming from behind to win 2-1 in their Zone One game at Irwin High on Sunday, while Grand Palladium FC beat Roaring River FC 2-0 at Petersfield Community Centre on Saturday.
Ronaldo McLeish scored both goals for Faulkland FC, one early and the other late in the game against Granville United, who finished the game with 10 players after Ewan Barton was red-carded in the 76th minute.
McLeish scored in the 17th and 87th minutes and took his tally of goals to three, just one behind leader Shanoy Anderson of Reggae Youths.
Faulkland FC are on 10 points from four games, four more than Grand Palladium FC, with Wadadah FC a point back on five points from three games.
At Irwin High, Glenroy Williams gave Montego Bay Boys Club the lead in the 17th minute and they led at half time before Howard Dent, who played for them last season in their run to the final, equalised for Catherine Hall in the 65th minute.
Malik Cummings then got a dramatic winner in time added on as Montego Bay Boys Club slumped to a fourth-straight loss, the only team in the competition yet to earn at least a point.
On Saturday, Grand Palladium moved into second place in Zone Two of the Super League after beating Roaring River FC 2-0 in their first-round game played at the Petersfield Community Centre.
Grand Palladium rebounded from a loss to Faulkland FC the previous week after winning their second game in their first season at the Super league level, both goals coming in the second half.
Alvaro Lopez opened the scoring in the 64th minute before Marlando Johnson doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, as they jumped three spots in the table.
