Gov’t to focus on improving climate for private investments
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, is expected to address some of the economic decisions taken by Cabinet last week, when he speaks at Mayberry lnvestments Limited’s first monthly forum for 2018, this evening.
Shaw confirmed yesterday that he will be addressing a number of issues, which will also be addressed in the Estimates of Revenues and Expenditures for 2018/19 he will table in the House of Representatives early next month.
He also noted that Cabinet, during its retreat at Jamaica House last week, decided on an increased focus stimulating private sector investments, mainly through financial inclusion and cheaper credit.
“We have to stimulate investments to create more jobs and more significant growth,” Shaw said.
Focus of the government on increasing efforts to court major investments in 2018/19, was also raised by Minister of Transport and Mining, Mike Henry, in a meeting with public transport operators on Sunday in Portmore, St Catherine.
Henry said that among the key priorities of a review of the National Transport Policy he is pursuing, is to give the private sector confidence in investing in and improving the public transport system.
“The policy is to be developed with a focus on providing opportunities for the private sector to participate with confidence in the development of the transport infrastructure and sustainable transport systems,” he said.
The Mayberry Forum will be at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
