A draw was hardly beneficial to both teams as Montego Bay United and nominal hosts Boys’ Town FC ended 0-0 in the Red Stripe Premier League match at Barbican football field yesterday.

The point keeps last-placed Boys’ Town mired in relegation danger on 13 points, while Montego Bay stay 10th — just beyond relegation threat — with 23 points.

Both will need to improve their play if they are to reach their respective goals this season. Montego Bay United have a chance of making the play-offs, while Boys’ Town will still be entertaining hopes of staying in the nation’s top-tier football competition.

Yesterday, on a field that, though covered with grass, was hard and produced uneven bounce, the two sides struggled for rhythm.

There was hardly anything to cheer about in a dull first half.

The game came alive in the second half with national midfielder Jamiel Hardware and former Reggae Boy Jermaine Anderson threatening for Boys’ Town. On one occasion Hardware dribbled by two opposing defenders and forced Montego Bay United goalkeeper Zavhia Hutchinson into a fine low save.

At the other end, the visitors, albeit not at their best, produced decent attacking play, primarily through Owayne Gordon, Dino Williams and Donavan Carey.

Gordon went closest when his free kick from an acute angle clipped the crossbar and bounced away harmlessly.

Williams went just wide with a left-footer in the dying moments of the game as goalkeeper Rushane Campbell scrambled to cover his far post.

In the end, a draw appeared fair to both sides even as afternoon squall coincided with the referee’s final whistle.

Meanwhile, leaders Portmore United rebounded from Sunday’s shock loss to Harbour View with a 2-0 win over Humble Lion at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. Ricardo Morris (eighth) and Javon East (44th) led the charge for the victors.
