Confed Heats up
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Title contenders Faulkland FC will kick off the second round of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League on Saturday when they host promoted Roaring River FC in a Zone Two game at Jarrett Park, set to start at 3:00 pm.
Faulkland FC, losing semi-finalists last season, are on 13 points and lead Zone 2 by four points after the end of the first round of matches — eight points more than the Westmoreland team that they had beaten 6-2 in the first round.
Also on Saturday, former champions Granville United will continue their hunt for a first win this season, after being the only team not to get a victory in the first round, when they host Clark’s Town FC at the Granville Community Centre playfield.
Two more games have been set for Sunday: Harmony FC will host Montego Bay Boys Club at Bounty Hall, while Wadadah FC will play Grand Palladium at the UDC field in Montego Bay.
On Tuesday, Beaches Negril and Catherine Hall FC will meet at Long Bay Beach Park in Negril, while Reggae Youths and Hopewell United will do battle at WesPow Park in St James.
Faulkland FC, the most prolific scoring team in the competition with 16 goals, will be gunning for another win at the expense of the promoted team that have conceded the most goals in the competition — 11 — so far.
Since conceding six in their opening game, Roaring River have shown improvement, allowing only five in their next four games, and have, over the period, scored a win, and had two draws.
Faulkland FC will be without striker Allan Ottey, who has since transferred to Red Stripe Premier League club Waterhouse, but the former national player scored just two goals during his stint at Faulkland FC.
Ronaldo McLeish, who leads all players with five goals, is expected to lead the Faulkland FC attack along with Radcliff Dawkins, while Eran Vassell, who has scored three of Roaring River’s six goals, will carry the hopes of his team to produce an upset.
Granville United, winners of the competition two years ago, have been struggling through their worst season in years, mired at the foot of the table in Zone 2 on one point, coming from a draw against Wadadah FC.
Clark’s Town had beaten Granville United 3-1 in their first meeting, their only win of the season so far, but will hope their form against the St James team will hold.
Tristan Warren, one of many schoolboys playing in the competition, has scored two of Clark’s Town’s three goals, but the team have failed to find the net in three straight games.
