Angry teen allegedly burns old man with hot water
A teenager who reportedly doused an elderly man with hot water, after they got into a dispute over missing funds from his home, was remanded when she appeared in court.
The disagreement between the 18-year-old accused, Chantal Richards, and the 70-year-old complainant reportedly occurred after the senior citizen discovered that his money was missing during a visit by the accused and asked her if she had taken it.
According to police reports, on January 31 around 6:30 am, the complainant and the accused were at his home on Sunrise Crescent in St Andrew when he made checks inside his bedroom for some money he had there, but did not find the funds.
The complainant reportedly asked Richards about the money and asked to search her bag, but she refused and an argument started between the two.
During the argument, Richards reportedly took up a knife from off a table inside the complainant’s bedroom and pulled it at him.
The complainant reportedly grabbed the knife from Richards and a struggle began for the object.
While wrestling for the knife, the complainant reportedly fell on his bed and the accused allegedly took up a kettle of hot water that was on a stove inside the room and poured it on the complainant, causing burns to the upper part of his body.
The injured complainant was taken to hospital where he was treated. The matter was later reported and Richards was arrested.
Last Thursday when she appeared in court the complainant was absent. As a result, Parish Judge Vaughn Smith rescheduled the matter for the complainant to attend court.
