Rain hampers first day of Grace Headley Cup semi-finals
HEAVY rains brought a premature end to the first day’s play between defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Manchester High in their 2018 Grace Headley Cup cricket semi-final match at STETHS playing field yesterday.
Play started an hour late yesterday due to a number of wet patches on the outfield from overnight rain. The two-day encounter, which is being played in two innings, continues today at 10:00 am.
STETHS won the toss and elected to bat and were 50 for two wickets off 27 overs at lunch. However, play was eventually called off for the day by the umpires due to the heavy afternoon showers.
The not out batsmen are Jerome Jones, who is on 23, and Xavier Burton, who is on six.
Manchester had taken the wicket of STETHS key batsman Andre McCarty for nine runs off the bowling of Andrew Morgan, while the other wicket to fall was by the run out route.
At Manchester High School, Holmwood Technical were 30 runs away from gaining first innings points from Vere Technical High at the close of play.
Vere, batting first, were bowled out for 109 with McCoy Johnson scoring 52, as Tian Jarrett took three wickets for 33 runs, and Shemar Smith grabbed three wickets for 21 runs.
Holmwood replied with 80 for four wickets at the close of play, with Rashad Richards on 27 not out, and Jermaine Lindo on 20 not out. Dujon Anderson took three for 13 runs.
