Cartel for Overnight Allowance call
Horse Racing, Sports
BY HURBUN WILLIAMS Observer writer

Cartel for Overnight Allowance call

AN Overnight Allowance call along with two three-year-old scampers will take centre stage on an open-looking sprint fest, 10-race midweek card at Caymanas Park today.

Talented Tony K takes a step down from Overnight company to headline a field of short sprinters going 1,000 round for the major share of a $1,000,000 purse.

Talented Tony K, considered one of the fastest sprinters in local racing, will have have at his feet a beehive of pursuers in Armageddon, Polly B, Cartel, Royal Vibes, Bimini, Simply The Best along with Papa Albert to help scorch the track in the running.

The likes of Cartel, Armageddon, Simply The Best and Polly B are coming into this race from some ugly defeats and there is no clear-cut winner among these few until the tape is broached.

This means that to win here the principal runners, including Talented Tony K, will have to pull out all the stops to pocket the major share.

Talented Tony K was well beaten by the cream of A1 including She’s A Maneater, Bigdaddykool and Houdini’s Magic last December in the rich Diamond Mile event.

That was almost four months ago and now being back to more favourable conditions and opponents, he has worked industriously and should be recovered sufficiently from his efforts to be competitive throughout with the distant reduced.

His fiercest rivals could manifest themselves in Cartel and Armageddon.

Cartel, following a purple patch of three very good wins riding the bends, had his colours lowered going straight to Uncle Taf and Ras Emanuel, who went on to win his next race riding the bends.

Armageddon felt the sting of defeat by Ras Emanuel at 1,200 metres. Prepared by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, Armageddon will return 1.0kg lighter for this and looks a well-oiled machine to make amends.

Polly B was also a victim of Ras Emanuel and is ideally drawn for a bolting start, but with this contender one never knows.

Another who cannot escape attention is Dragline. From the naked eye he may appear not to have any chance against the aforementioned, but with jockey Dick Cardenas electing to ride consideration is due.

Earlier in the programme, three-yearolds will do their thing as, in the second race, a field of 12 native bred threeyear- olds only contesting a maiden condition race will go 1,000 metres round for a purse of $870,000, while in race three imported three-year-olds and upward maidens (NW2) lifetime compete in a field of seven and will run go 1,000 metres straight for a purse of $900,000.
