#Champs2018: Forbes of Vere gets Girls’ Class 2 discus record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Marie Forbes of Vere Technical launched a new meet record 46.69 metres on her way to victory in the Girls’ Class two discus finals at the 108th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.
Forbes who has been in superb form all season and has gone beyond 47m on more than one occasion, justified favourite billing by erasing the six-year-old mark of 46.64m set by Gleneve Grange in 2012.
Forbes won ahead of Aliesha Shaw (40.96m) of Rusea’s High and Excelsior’s Kimberly Lugg (40.13m).
With the victory, Vere Technical moved into the top five on 28 points, behind defending champions Edwin Allen who are in pole position on 52 points after nine events scored.
Hydel (43), Holmwood (41) and Excelsior (37) are also in the running.
