#Champs2018: Rhodes Hall’s Williams mines gold in boys’ 400m hurdles

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Rhodes Hall’s Rovane Williams produced a special sub-50 second clocking as he mined gold in the boys’ Class one 400m hurdles in a new record 49.94s at the 108th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.

Like he did earlier this season, Williams showed that he will be a force to reckon with going forward as he stormed through over the last few obstacles to claim the top spot. His time lowered the old mark of 51.37 set last year by Timor Barrett and was the third sub-50 clocking in the event in ‘Champs’ history.

Calabar Malik James-King came through for second in 50.03 ahead of the fast starting Jauavney James (50.07) of STETHS.

Both James-King and James were establishing personal best times.

Earlier, Dean Clarke of Calabar upset the apple cart to claim victory in the boys’ Class two event in 52.67 as Kingston College’s Shanthamoi Brown fell over the first hurdle and failed to recover finishing at the back of the pack.

Clarke came home ahead of Devontie Archer (52.78) of Excelsior and Andre Leslie (52.90) also of Calabar.
