X-Mezmo tackles real-life issues
EMERGING reggae artiste X-Mezmo believes that music is the most powerful way to educate and uplift the people.
“I view music in a much broader context than most people do; for me, it’s more than just entertainment. Music has a greater purpose than that. It’s an instrument of influence, and I choose to use my music to help people deal with their problems and uplift themselves by singing songs that have a positive message,” he explained.
The singjay, who hails from the parish of St Ann, launched his solo career in 2012 with the release of the song Honest Road for the Big House label.
The song highlighted the struggles that he experienced during his childhood days as well as those which he has faced in music.
“I’m not afraid to get personal with my music. A lot of what I record deals with self-awareness issues and my struggles. I hope that others can learn from what I have been through,” he said.
Born Garfield Russell, X-Mezmo grew up in Steer Town St Ann. A past student of the Ocho Rios High School, he began his music career in 2002 as a member of a group called the Stayn Crew. After the release of a few singles, the members of the group disbanded in 2010 to pursue solo interests.
X-Mezmo is currently promoting the song You Know You. The song was released on the Roc One label last December.
